Course Information

What is involved in a Driver Education Course (DEC)?

A Driver Education Course (DEC) is a referral program from the NSW Roads and Maritime Services (RMS). The program takes the same format and delivery as Traffic Offender Intervention Program (TOIP). The Increased Traffic Offender Penalties Scheme (ITOP) was introduced in 1 February 2015 by NSW Government. Unrestricted licence holders who exceed their demerit points limit twice in five years must re-sit and pass the Driver Knowledge Test and complete a Driver Education Course.

Are you eligible?

Who participates in a Driver Education Course or TOIP?

Drivers may be referred to the DEC if they exceeded their demerit points limit twice in five years. Participants of the DEC may also have others directives placed on them before they can get their licence back, such as passing the Driver Knowledge Test.

What happens when you complete the Course ?

After completing the DEC, an RMS certificate will be handed to you if you complete de program in a face-to-face session.
